The anticipated sixth album from Theudho is here! Continuing in the tradition set by "De roep van het woud", which was a huge progression in terms of songwriting.
True pagan black metal seems to be long out of fashion but it was a big part of what Heidens Hart was built upon. Theudho is Belgium's longest running pagan black metal band alongside Ancient Rites and keeps doing what they do best: blackened pagan metal with top notch songwriting. The tracks are very diverse but always with a focus on strong melodies, with plenty of aggressive, melancholic as well as monumentally epic and bombastic sounds. The sound is completed with well written guitar solos (a rare thing these days!) and atmospheric acoustic guitars. Theudho is easily among the best the country has to offer in the genre.
The fantastic art on front and back are custom paintings by Wesley Dewanckel, entirely made on request and per the vision of the band.
CD was pressed in The Netherlands.

SCHAVOT is an excellent melodic black metal discovery for me, the mood of the music is quite similar to the great mid-90s. The female "aahs" and "oohs" in "Onmens" remind me at Siebenbürgen for example. Further vocal variation besides the harsh lead vocals comes by a kind of male spoken words, that is quite characteristic and some decent clean singing. The atmospheric keyboard layer is well integrated in the lively and dynamic mix and a lot of songs are really catchy and rousing. Brilliant opus!

Vananidr are one of those 10/10 bands in my opinion. Great music with every album. Atmosphere is on point!

Blistering pagan incantations sent to shatter your soul. Personally, when I listen to black metal there's often an element lacking the grit, or inspired touch, needed to envelope you in the atmosphere imparted by the song title or album asthetic, making it hard to accentuate your own mood or surroundings and get truly lost: not here though. The vocals punctuate the lyrics with intent, the guitars weave sharp crystallised ambience and the drums kick you hard in the ribcage. Pure & simply elite.
